Flavour by the sea
Captain Digby is one of Thanet's oldest and most beloved pubs. The name originates from Robert Digby, a nephew of Lord Holland, who commanded a warship in the English fleet in 1759. Originally built between 1763 and 1768 as a ‘Bede House’ by Lord Holland to entertain his guests, Captain Digby has a rich history. In 1816, it was relocated from its original site to the stables of the Bede House. It’s said that when Lord Holland passed away, he left money to ensure that customers could toast Captain Digby’s health each year. His will also provided for a bottle of wine to be given to every young woman in the parish about to give birth. Sadly, these traditions no longer continue, but the pub's historic charm remains.
Located just 500 meters from Holland Cottage, the Botany Bay Hotel is a perfect spot for a leisurely walk followed by a delicious breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Enjoy stunning views and a varied menu at this welcoming hotel. For more information, visit their website: Botany Bay Hotel Me
